You may be among most people who have never given the type of water coming out of your faucet a second thought. I didn’t give it much thought until I became a hairdresser. But what is the difference between hard and soft water?
The amount of dissolved calcium and magnesium generally determines hard water. You may notice that it is challenging to create a foamy lather when washing your hair in hard water. The soap reacts with the calcium (which can be relatively high in hard water) to form “soap scum.” Also, when using hard water, you will use more products to achieve the same results. Hard water is even known to make it more challenging to retain your hair color and cause it to turn brassy faster.
Some Home Remedies are:
Use a clarifying shampoo
Create a vinegar rinse (1 tablespoon vinegar and 3 cups water)
Rinse with bottled or filtered water
Or the best option out there is to GET A WATER FILTER! Contact a residential water treatment expert near you for more information on installing a water filter that’s right for you
